Climathons is an innovative EU initiative to tackle climate change, organised by Climate-KIC, and can now be considered a global movement. In Heraklion, on Friday 26 October 2018, the first Climathon for Crete will take place, with the theme “Heraklion facing the challenges of climate change” and will be held at the Cultural Conference Centre (Plastira & Romanos).

Such actions take place in major urban centres around the world where active citizens gather and discuss for 24 hours in order to identify the problems related to climate change in their city and propose solutions. Climate-KIC is a European knowledge and innovation community, supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology.

For the city of Heraklion, the organization is undertaken by the Socio-Educational Research and Innovation Group of I.T.E. and the Municipality of Heraklion and as the organizers point out, they are expecting all citizens, in a unique event that aims to address climate change in the city of Heraklion, through the development of ideas of citizens and with many pleasant breaks for inspiration and relaxation.
